authorities say the boy is the cousin of the driver of the race car.who was not injured. chase johnson was behind the wheel during saturday's fatal crash. the petaluma high school senior has also been a competitive racer since a young age.his website reveals that he comes from 4 generations of race car drivers. the 17 year old lives in penngrove.a town outside petaluma. some of the championships he's won have been at the petaluma speedway. his shop teacher at petaluma high says chase is a good student. one of several kids at the school that are very involved in the sport. to lose a family member is very difficult. 14 year old marcus johnson.known by the nickname m-j was a lifelong racer.starting with smaller vehicles like go karts.since

currently, bikes are banned from all trains during commute hours, a policy that has been the subject of protest from bicycle commuters for years. the pilot program, which will run through friday. will still prohibit bikes in the front three cars of all trains during commute hours and from the first car at all times for safety reasons. if the second pilot is deemed a success, bart staff will return to the board with a proposal for permanent changes to bike policy. in august, commuters in san francisco, san jose and up and down the peninsula won't need to own bikes to pedal to many destinations. they will be able to borrow and return hundreds of bicycles at dozens of kiosks. the bay air quality management district is rolling out a seven-million- dollar test program in august to loan bikes to residentatured 700

looking for the stock market to rebound today. the three major indexes all fell friday. investors say the biggest disappointment was the failure of the dow jones industrial average to continue it's winning streak, the longest in 17 years. we'll be watching the stock market this morning starting at 6:30 with the opening bell. >> in bay area news. lanes have reopened on 680 this morning after a deadly crash shut down the interstate. the accident happened on northbound 680 at the rudgear road offramp in walnut creek. a total of four vehicles including a motorcycle were involved in the crash. police say details of exactly what happened remain unclear, but one car, a nissan, burst into flames after the crash. witnesses told investigators that the motorcycle and another vehicle were driving recklessly before the crash. the motorcyclist was killed. the crash remains under investigation and investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or the events leading up to it to call police.

>> transit officials say the much-hyped ferry service between oakland and south san francisco has not been living up to expectations. the 42-million dollar service was launched nine months ago and operates seven trips each weekday. however, officials say ridership is less than a third of what they were hoping for during the ferries' first year on the bay. now, in an effort to boost ridership, the ferry operator wants to spend another 230-thousand dollars to add more trips. it would include a third afternoon trip to the east bay and two midday trips a week between south san francisco and pier 41. a beautiful view from the south bay the tail lights are northbound, so far, so good. your commute into your weather coming up.

in saint peters bringing the "papal installation" live to you starting at 1:30 tomorrow morning. a senior u.s. military official visiting seoul is sending a message to both koreas: warning north korea over recent threats and reassuring south korea that military backing won't be hurt by a u.s. budget debate. deputy secretary of defense ashton carter told reporters that the north's threats would only deepen washington's defense commitment to seoul. ashton said deep u.s. budget cuts won't alter pentagon efforts to make south korean defense a priority. china has bypassed britain as the world's fifth largest arms exporter. the volume of chinese weapons exports rose by 162 percent from 2008-2012. the stockholm international peace research institute says the largest buyer of chinese weapons has been pakistan, which accounts for 55 percent of the country's exports.

explosives. 500 students were evacuated from a dorm building after someone called 9-1-1 and reported a person with a gun. police arriving found a person dead inside a dorm room of an apparent suicide. they also found an assault weapon and what they call "improvised explosive devices" new this morning. a trial is set to begin this morning in new york city over the police department's controversial tactic of stopping, questioning, and sometimes frisking people on the street. more than a hundred police officers, scholars, and lawmakers are expected to testify about the policy that has seen mostly african american and hispanic men stopped by police in the past decade. many people say they were targeted because of their race. a white house official confirms assistant u-s attorney general thomas perez will be offered up as the next secretary of labor. some republican opposition is expected when president obama nominates perez today. if confirmed by the senate,
